While the whole cast was exceptional, this weeks performer of the week is Daniela Ruah. She reminds us that while Kensi is tough, she’s not indestructible. To get to see this rare and raw side of Kensi, you haven’t seen. She’s had moments, back in season one when Dom was kidnapped and in season two when she is talking about Jack and how she tried to help him, but in the end it just wasn’t enough. This time it was different, because it was emotions and feelings she was trying to forget. It’s something she’s trying to push down and move on from, but in the end it might just end up consuming her.
Watching Daniela’s scenes from the start in the boat shed to the end with walking away from Deeks, you can see how much Kensi doesn’t want to discuss this. While she finally ends up talking Chief Investigator Ava Wallace, she does her best to avoid the conversation. It can tell that she doesn’t want to be there and doesn’t want to discuss this. She’s forced to discuss and it leads to the ‘Do you have any idea of what I went through in captivity?” You can notice that this touch exterior is starting to crack and what’s seeing been trying to bury, is finally coming back to the surface.
So when she returns to Deeks, she wants to just move on and not think about what she had to talk about. Deeks can see that this is something that is bigger then all that is going on. Deeks does what he does best and be’s there for his partner. As soon as Kensi is wrapped in Deeks arms, she just lets the tears go and you just want to cry along with her. You can sense her pain, you know it’s real and you are still this stripped down version of Kensi. Daniela just does this so beautifully and pulls you into this moment and one of the things you can see is the pain in Kenis’ eyes of all that she is feeling. Not only that but you are also given this real raw, touching, and sincere moment between the two character. When she tries to pull herself together again, she’s not like ‘I’m fine, let’s get back to work.’ She’s still in that moment and it’s real and honest, because she’s laughing through the tears. It slowly brings the two back to where they like to be.
