On 6 January Sky 1 HD’s hit US dramas Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles will return for their third and fourth seasons respectively, bringing with them some winter sun and high-octane drama.

After two successful seasons it is time for Sky customers to buckle up for a super-charged third season of Hawaii Five-0. The second season didn’t hold back in its finale, rattling off fiendish plot twists with relish. While Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) was forced to choose between saving cousin Kono (Grace Park) and wife Malia (Reiko Aylesworth), Joe White (Terry O’Quinn) kept his word and told McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) who the mysterious Shelburne was: Doris McGarrett (Christine Lahti), the mother he thought was dead.

This season starts with quite a Hawaiian punch as it would be an understatement to say Mrs McGarrett has got some explaining to do in the season premiere, amid the drama of nemesis Wo Fat breaking out of prison. We also find Chin Ho in a very dark place. On the plus side, an eclectic gathering of guest stars have booked their tickets to Hawaii, including Oscar® nominee Terrence Howard, as a shadowy figure who has history with Danno (Golden Globe® nominee Scott Caan), and Star Trek legend George Taakei.

Also, coming up this January is the highly anticipated fourth series of NCIS: Los Angeles. Bulldozing expectations, the stakes were raised in the season three finale when Special Agent G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) went rogue and shot dead uber-villain The Chameleon (Christopher Lambert), with hopes of covering up his actions immediately dashed by the presence of a camera crew.

Picking up from this game-changing conclusion, season four explores the fallout from Callen’s decision and how it’s affected the team – will his bromance with Agent Hanna (LL Cool J) ever be the same again? Hetty (Linda Hunt), meanwhile, is struggling to adapt to life in retirement.

Hawaii Five-0 Season 3 and NCIS: Los Angeles Season 4 will begin on Sky 1 HD and Sky 1 on 6 January at 9pm and 10pm respectively

As we await the episode of NCIS: LA in which we’re introduced to the jet-setting do-gooders who’ll populate the proposed spin-off, details are beginning to leak — and juicy ones at that. How juicy? We can now tell you who (at least a few of) the characters are!

Paris: This Special Agent is a twice-divorced badass who is as sexy as she is tough and as smart as she is sexy. In other words, she is formidable on just about every level. Her one weakness? Though she’s part of a team, she works best when she works alone.

Roy: Though he is (not-at-all-willingly) retired from active duty, this former Special Agent is still employed as the group’s Operations Manager. However, it’s widely acknowledged that he is nonetheless their shrewdest investigator.

Danny: The team’s forensic specialist (and resident oddball) is an ex-NYPD detective who has a little skill at a lotta things. Except driving. Apparently, at that, he has no skill whatsoever!

Clara: Not only a brainiac, lawyer, photographer and military junkie, this Special Agent is also supermodel gorgeous. In her eyes, though, she’s just the tomboy next door.

Kai: The group’s young IT guy apparently is so bright — thanks, MIT! — he doesn’t just say “Did you try rebooting?” like ours does when someone brings him a computer problem. No wonder they all love him like a kid brother.

Nate’s back!

EW has learned exclusively that Peter Cambor, who plays operational psychologist Nate Getz on NCIS: LA, is set to return as a guest star for a February episode that will take him undercover with Hetty (Linda Hunt).

“This episode is a must-see for fans of both Nate and Hetty,” executive producer Shane Brennan says. “Not only do we get to have Nate guest in the episode, but we get to see him go undercover with Hetty. It’s one of the most memorable, funny undercover operations we’ve done on the series.”

Cambor, who currently appears on the TBS series Wedding Band, was a series regular on NCIS: LA‘s first season and has appeared on the show a number of times since then as a guest star.

EXCLUSIVE: CBS is looking to further expand its NCIS franchise with another spinoff. The untitled project, written/executive produced by NCIS and NCIS: LA executive producer Shane Brennan, is a planted spinoff from NCIS: LA, which Brennan created and serves as showrunner on. It will feature new characters who will be introduced in two-part episode of NCIS: LA later this season. The proposed spinoff, produced by CBS TV Studios, will follow a small mobile team of agents, who are forced to live and work together, as they crisscross the country solving crimes.

Both NCIS: LA and its mothership series, juggernaut NCIS, originated as planted spinoffs, as two-part episodes of JAG and NCIS, respectively. In using NCIS: LA as a launchpad for the new spinoff, CBS is taking a page from the playbook of the long-running CSI franchise, in which the third series, CSI: NY, also started off as a planted spinoff from spinoff CSI: Miami.

Now in its 10th season, NCIS continues to be one of the biggest scripted series on television. Airing behind it, NCIS: LA, now in its fourth season, has been a solid ratings performer and commands one of the highest off-network syndication license fees for a drama series. (It is the subject of ongoing litigation by NCIS creator Don Bellisario.)

The NCIS franchise is currently the strongest on TV, with its ratings eclipsing those of the two remaining CSI series as well as the lone Law & Order drama, SVU. CBS has been pretty successful building procedural franchises with CSI and the NCIS. Its only recent miss was the Criminal Minds spinoff.

Brennan joined NCIS at the beginning of Season 4 in 2006 and was tapped as showrunner the following season. He ran both the mothership series and NCIS: LA for the spinoff’s first two seasons before focusing on NCIS: LA last year. This marks the second pilot for Paradigm-repped Brennan, who also has King & Maxwell at TNT, also produced by CBS TV Studios where Brennan is under an overall deal.

Not gonna lie, as a Deeks/Kensi fan, that Eric/Nell spoiler left me disappointed, like bitterly disappointed. Anything Densi to ease the pain? – Amy
Nov. 20 will! In this episode Deeks will go undercover as a surfer and exec producer Shane Brennan promises an hour filled with great moments. “We gave some fun moments with [Eric Christian Olsen] out on the water, and later in the episode, we see Kensi out there as well,” he says. “There are some very funny moments in it, and there’s a great bar room brawl. For people who love Kensi and Deeks, they’re going to love the episode.”

I have been loving the flirting between Eric and Nell this season, it has been adorable to witness! Can we hope to see more of it this season and see that relationship continue? – Cheryl
Remember the almost-kiss between Nell and Eric earlier this season? Remember how bummed you were that it didn’t happen? Well, be sad no longer: There’s a KISS COMING! “I won’t tell you which episode,” teases executive producer Shane Brennan. “But there is a kiss coming. It’s nerd love!” (Extra hints because I like you: It will air before December and they are NOT on a mission.)
Now, before Kensi and Deeks fans cry foul and claim they’ve been waiting for a love connection longer, Brennan is quick to point out that the two couples are on very different paths. “Nerds don’t hang around when it comes to love. They jump right in,” he jokes. “It certainly has developed. It’s an intellectual relationship that sometimes struggles to find its physicality, but that’s the nature of the characters. Whereas Kensi and Deeks there a playfulness and sexy tension.” Look for Nell and Eric to continue to sizzle this season, and, Brennan predicts, “If it’s a race to the end, I think they’re leading Kensi and Deeks.”
