With plans for a potential new spinoff series in the works, we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek of tomorrow’s NCIS: Los Angeles episode that introduces members of the new mobile crime-fighting team known as NCIS: Red!

Sex and the City alum and Parenthood actor John Corbett (Roy Haines) is a former NCIS Special Agent now working as an analyst on the team of new elite agents who travel the country solving tough crimes. The NCIS: Red team is led by Grey’s Anatomy star Kim Raver (Paris Summerskill) and also includes one-time ER star Scott Grimes (Special Agent Dave Flynn).

In two special episodes setting up the potential spinoff, the NCIS: LA agents travel from California to Idaho to meet up with the NCIS Red team to investigate a link between a murder weapon located there that matches one used in a national security case in Los Angeles.

Watch the video for exclusive scenes from Tuesday’s show, which airs at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Can you tell us anything about the upcoming NCIS: LA spin-off? –Ali
Though Daniela Ruah doesn’t share many scenes with the “Red” team, she did share this observation with us: “There’s a lot of tension going on between Callen and the female lead” aka Agent Paris, played by Kim Raver. They’re just throwing more wood in a fire.” (Reminder: The two-part planted pilot kicks off March 19.)

Say hello to the Red team.

As you may have heard, on next week’s episode of NCIS: LA, viewers will be introduced to a mobile team of agents who live together and solve crimes, collectively called NCIS: Red. Over two episodes, airing next week and March 26, we’ll get to know John Corbett’s Roy Haines, Kim Raver’s Agent Paris Summerskill, and more. But while this is indeed a backdoor pilot for a spin-off, it doesn’t mean we’ll be short on any action from the core NCIS: LA team.

In fact, when I sat down with Chris O’Donnell earlier, he said he’d been hard at work filming plenty of scenes with both Raver and Corbett. Additionally, I’m told that Callen and Paris, who will not have officially met before their encounter in this episode, will share “a definite connection” that points toward potential for more than friendship. (How that’d work on a spin-off, I’m not sure. But should Red get picked up, we know at least one cast member — Miguel Ferrer — will be a regular on both shows. So more crossover is not out of the cards.)

Regardless of how it all pans out, O’Donnell said “it’s a cool concept for a show,” and he looks forward to viewers seeing “how the chemistry works with everybody.” “It’s off to a great start,” he said. “It’s also a flashback for me to five years ago when we went on the set of NCIS and the day I first met Todd, LL Cool J. I remember meeting the cast of NCIS and they were such a family and so close and comfortable, and we were all awkward and trying to figure everything out.”

They’ve clearly figured out things since then.

Question: I need scoop on NCIS: LA‘s Deeks/Kensi. Anything would be awesome! —Christy
Ausiello:
Oh, I’ve got much more than “anything.” Daniela Ruah shared with TVLine this sexy scoop at Monday’s TV Academy Hall of Fame event: “Considering how fun it was to see Kensi and Deeks go undercover as a married couple, they’re doing it again” — not long before the season ends. “I just found out today,” she added, “so that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge.”

NCIS: LOS ANGELES

“There’s often the question, ‘Why would you do a third one?'” NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles executive producer Shane Brennan admits of the franchise’s next spinoff, which will launch as a two-part “embedded pilot” on NCIS: LA March 19 and 26. “‘How would it be different?'”

Here’s how: The action follows a mobile military crime-solving unit, the Red team, led by Paris Summerskill (Grey’s Anatomy alum Kim Raver), who shares a mysterious past with analyst Roy Haines (Sex and the City’s John Corbett).

Brennan says the new show, which may be called NCIS: Red, will track the team’s overlapping personal and professional lives. “They work and live together 24/7” — on two trucks nicknamed Laverne and Shirley — “so they sit around a dinner table, arguing about elements of the case and who kept everyone awake last night snoring.”

Chris O’Donnell has starred on NCIS: Los Angeles as special agent “G. Callen” for each of the procedural drama’s four seasons. Passionate about getting behind the lens, he recently directed an episode of the show, and ET gauged the cast’s reaction to his directing.

While a little friction between O’Donnell and his co-stars wouldn’t be entirely unexpected in his new role, the cast revealed that he was nothing but a pleasure to work with. If anything, his personal acting experience made it easier both for him and his co-stars in communicating orders.

“I’ve loved it,” said Daniel Ruah (“Kensi Blye”). “The expectation of Chris directing was very exciting, especially because as a cast I think we’re very open about giving each other ideas for scenes. …So, knowing the kind of notes that Chris has given me before not as a director were always great, I was kind of positively expecting him to be great.”

The episode marks the first time that O’Donnell has directed the show, which made for a unique experience for the cast. Renée Felice Smith (“Nell Jones”) credited his effective directing from the onset to his extensive acting experience.

“It’s kind of seamless, his rolling into directing,” she said. “…It just kind of makes sense for our show. He’s a great director because he’s very specific in what he wants and he talks to the actor. He’s an actor himself, so he knows how it feels. …It’s really been a great experience. I hope it happens more often.”

O’Donnell revealed that he was excited to be directing the show for the first time, saying, “I’m having a blast with it. I love it.”

While the NCIS: LA cast is tight-knit group, LL Cool J (“Sam Hanna”) assured that no pranks were played on O’Donnell and he wasn’t subjected to any hazing.

“I’m giving him all the love I can give him,” he said.

Check out the video to hear O’Donnell’s co-stars’ opinions on his directing gig as well as a sneak peek at tonight’s episode. NCIS: Los Angeles airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
