One of NCIS: Los Angeles‘ biggest ongoing mysteries is the question of when, where and why Nate Getz, the team’s onetime resident operational psychologist, will resurface.
Well, TVLine has exclusively secured intel on the when of Nate’s next appearance on the CBS drama, and a big tease for what happens during his latest visit.
In an episode set to air in early April, Peter Cambor will reprise his role of Nate, and this time his perceptive skills will clue him into a blooming development within the ranks of the L.A. team.
“As well as playing a pivotal role in the case under investigation [that week], Nate also makes a discovery of his own about Nell… and her feelings for Eric,” NCIS: LA boss Shane Brennan tells us.
A curious twist there, seeing as in the February 2011 episode “Lockup,” it was indicated that Nate and Nell have some sort of unsaid connection — familiar or perhaps otherwise.
Alas, as excited as longtime viewers will be to see Cambor back, his latest encore is but a one-off. “Nate will be jetting off to foreign shores at the end of the episode, but fans can be assured that we haven’t seen the last of him,” says Brennan. “Nate remains a much-loved character in the series, and we always look for opportunities to bring him back.”

Question: How is it that whenever I ask for NCIS: LA scoop, you give me zippo? Mister, you better be holding out on me because you have something especially awesome. —Amy
Ausiello: Is it too early to start teasing the season finale? No? Splendid. “Someone’s gonna die that we know well,” confirms exec producer Shane Brennan. “I’ve got the target, I’m just choosing which missile to fire. And there’s a character or two coming back to tie some things up.”
Question: It’s about time you gives us a scoop for NCIS: LA. —Gisela
Ausiello: There’s a big Kensi-centric double episode coming up titled “Blye, K.” that Brennan says “goes to the very heart of why she joined NCIS” and sets the stage for the big NCIS: LA/Hawaii Five-0 crossover during May sweeps. In possibly related news, the show is looking for an actress in her late 40s to play the estranged mother of one of the show’s female characters. Hmm…

Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J are about to get NCIS L-lei’d. The stars of NCIS: Los Angeles will say ‘aloha’ to the sexy actors of fellow CBS series Hawaii Five-0 as part of an exciting May sweeps two-night crossover event. The ambitious case involves the outbreak of a deadly virus that is quite possibly being used as a murder weapon. Yikes!
The sweeps stunt will begin on a Monday episode of Hawaii Five-0, with special appearances by O’Donnell’s Callen and LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna, and then picks up the following Tuesday evening on NCIS: LA, with Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett and Scott Caan’s Danny Williams paying a visit to the west coast.
This is not the first time a NCIS: LA character has crossed over into the Five-0 world. Back in October, Daniela Ruah’s character, Kensi Blye, helped McGarrett and Joe (Terry O’Quinn) crack a case with her lip reading services.
“It was great fun earlier this season to see Danni soaking up the sun on Hawaii Five-0, so when CBS asked if we were interested in doing a double episode crossover, we jumped at the idea,” says Shane Brennan, the mastermind behind both NCIS series. “What we’ve come up with is an enormously entertaining, high octane story that showcases the very best of both shows. It’s going to be a fun ride.”
Adds Five-0 showrunner Peter Lenkov, “Besides the obvious excitement of teaming up with an incredible show, expanding Hawaii Five-0’s universe [and] teaming with NCIS: LA on a case with huge stakes, we’re interested in exploring the relationship between McGarrett and Hanna, both SEALs with a little history.”
Excited to see Callen hang 10 with Danno? How about hearing McGarrett bark, “Book ’em, Hanna”? Sound off in comments section.

There’s trouble afoot on NCIS: LA.
As previously teased, a beloved member of the team is going to take a bullet in the show’s Sept. 20 premiere. But who? The explosive new promo, which EW has scored exclusively, has your answer…[Major spoiler ahead!!]
IT’S HETTY!
As you pick your jaw up off the floor, allow executive producer Shane Brennan to explain the decision, and how it ties together Hetty (Linda Hunt) and Callen (Chris O’Donnell): “Linda is always up for anything, and it seemed right. It seemed like the right way for us to get into revealing a big piece of Callen’s backstory and, in the process, her backstory. We find out as much about Callen as we do about Hetty in this first episode. It was really, I guess, a way of us exploring the hidden relationship between Callen and Hetty.”
And while Brennan says the premiere — which will pick up seconds after the finale and be told in real-time — will reveal “quite a lot,” a new string of questions will most certainly arise from the information we learn. “When you [watch] at something like this, you get answers, but then you’re like, ‘Ok, but why did that happen. Or when did that happen?’ There are always questions that spring from the answers.”
So can fans expect a massive cliffhanger ending in the premiere? Brennan wouldn’t say. But he teased, “It isn’t quite what you think; that’s what I’ll say. I’m a great believer in playing with the audience’s expectations. And I guess that’s one of the reasons NCIS: LA is successful. We keep them a little unsettled.”

The worlds of NCIS: LA and Hawaii Five-0 are about to collide.
Daniela Ruah’s NCIS: LA character, Agent Kensi, will cross over to fellow CBS crime procedural Hawaii Five-0 this fall, an Eye spokesperson confirms to TVLine.
Ruah leaked the news on Twitter early Thursday. “Aloha,” she wrote. “Read my lips closely… Kensi will make her way to Hawaii Five-0 this season! Stay tuned… ”
No further details were made available, but it’s probably safe to say the crossover will air during November sweeps.
